Actor Playwright

AEA & SAG-AFTRA

Maya Malan-Gonzalez is an actor, playwright and teatrista.

My work centers women’s voices and pressing social issues, and I embrace movement and a little wacky humor in all things art. Traveler by nature, I have performed on stages from coast to coast and in Mexico, Scotland and Ireland.

I am a lifelong member of Milagro in Portland and an ensemble member with Studio Luna in Los Angeles. I have also performed with Denver Center for the Performing Arts, Cara Mia Theatre Co., San Jose Stage Company, San Diego Rep, South Coast repertory Theatre, El Teatro Campesino, Seattle Rep, and Portland Center Stage.

My wild plays ignite laughter and uplift Latine culture,

So you can e

xperience a world of possibility

My written work includes plays with empowered Latinas, humor, magic and music. My Christmas spectacle, “A Xmas Cuento Remix” became the first holiday play to receive a NNPN rolling world premiere with Milagro (Portland), 16th Street Theater (Chicago) and The Cleveland Public Theatre. From holiday themes, educationally biographical shows and autobiographical stories my writing is filled with adventure.

“I found Maya Malan-Gonzalez as Dr. Campos agreeable. She was great as the voice of reason among the ensemble. As Dulcinea, Malan-Gonzalez stood out even more. Though the use of puppets surprised me at first, I still found her performance incredibly charming and kind-hearted, which quickly won me over..”
